Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
The most widely evidenced talking therapy for gambling harm. We work on the specific beliefs that keep the cycle turning — that a win is “due”, that a system beats the odds, that one more bet undoes the damage — and on the practical behaviour that follows from them.
Motivational interviewing
Most people arrive genuinely torn, not decided. Rather than arguing you into change, this approach works with the ambivalence directly, which is both more respectful and more effective than being told what to do.
Systemic and family work
Gambling harm rarely stops at one person. Where a partner or family member is involved, we look at the whole system: money, roles, trust and the exhausting job of policing someone else’s behaviour.
Mindfulness-based relapse prevention
Urges peak and pass. Learning to notice one without immediately acting on it — and having a rehearsed plan for the ten minutes that follow — is a skill, and skills can be practised.
Practical money repair runs alongside the talking
Therapy that ignores the bank account does not last. From the first fortnight we work on the practical layer: registering with GAMSTOP, switching on bank gambling blocks, installing blocking software across every device, closing dormant accounts, and where appropriate handing day-to-day money management to someone trusted for a fixed, agreed period.
We are not debt advisers, and we will never charge you for a referral. Where debt is part of the picture we help you take the shame out of the numbers and get you to a free, regulated service such as StepChange, National Debtline or Citizens Advice.
What we hold ourselves to
| Principle | What it means in practice |
| Free routes first | NHS and charity options are named before any paid option is discussed. |
| No operator money | No funding, advertising, affiliate links or commission from gambling companies, comparison sites or affiliates. |
| Informed consent | You are told what a session involves, what it costs and what the confidentiality limits are, before you start. |
| Plain language | No jargon without a translation. If you do not understand something, that is our error to fix. |
| Data minimisation | We ask for the least information that lets us help. The self-check never leaves your browser. |
| Right to stop | You can end contact at any point, without explanation, and ask us to delete your details. |
A plain limit. This is a talking-therapy and information service. It is not a medical service and it does not replace your GP, an NHS clinician, or emergency care. If gambling sits alongside depression, alcohol or drug use, or thoughts of suicide, please involve your GP or the NHS gambling clinics as well — we will help you make that contact.
