12 weekly sessions · 50 minutes
One-to-one therapy
The core programme. Weekly sessions, in person or by secure video, working through the pattern rather than around it.
- Weeks 1–2: mapping triggers, and putting immediate barriers in place — GAMSTOP, bank blocks, blocking software, account closures.
- Weeks 3–6: urge surfing, the thinking traps behind chasing, and rebuilding a week that has something in it other than gambling.
- Weeks 7–10: money repair, disclosure conversations, and repairing trust at a pace that is survivable.
- Weeks 11–12: a written relapse plan, and what to do in the first ten minutes of a slip.
Suits: anyone whose gambling is affecting money, sleep, work or relationships and who wants structured weekly work.
6–10 sessions
Family & partner therapy
Living with someone else’s gambling is its own injury, and it deserves its own support. You do not need the gambler’s agreement, or even their knowledge, to come.
- Protecting household finances without becoming an unpaid accountant
- Boundaries you can hold when you are exhausted, not just when you are calm
- Talking to children honestly and age-appropriately
- Space for the anger, grief and shame that partners rarely get to say out loud
Suits: partners, parents, adult children and close friends — whether or not the person gambling is ready to change.
8 weeks · closed group
Facilitated group programme
Eight weekly sessions with a small group that starts and finishes together. Facilitated by a practitioner, with a set theme each week and time for what people bring.
- Small closed groups, so trust builds instead of resetting each week
- Ground rules agreed in week one, including confidentiality
- Often the point at which secrecy stops feeling load-bearing
Suits: people who have stopped or cut down and want to stay stopped alongside others who understand it.
Ongoing · monthly
Aftercare & relapse response
The riskiest period is often after the intensive work ends, when life looks normal again and vigilance drops.
- Monthly check-ins for as long as they are useful
- A same-week slot if you slip, rather than a place at the back of a queue
- A written plan for the first hour, the first day and the first week after a lapse
Suits: anyone who has finished a programme here or elsewhere, including NHS treatment.
What we do not do
We do not prescribe medication, diagnose conditions, lend money, manage debt on your behalf, or take any payment from gambling operators or affiliates. We do not run 24-hour crisis cover — for that, the free National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 is staffed around the clock. If you are in immediate danger, call 999.
What the first call is actually like
Twenty minutes, by phone or video, with a practitioner rather than a salesperson. You will be asked what is happening, how long it has been going on, what you have already tried, and what you would like to be different in three months. You do not have to have your finances in order, or a number, or a tidy story.
At the end you will get an honest recommendation. Sometimes that is a programme here. Often it is an NHS referral, a GamCare route, a local Gamblers Anonymous meeting, or free debt advice — and we will say so plainly when that is the better fit. There is no obligation and nobody chases you afterwards.
